New EXCO promises to pursue broad development goals for Ibiono Ibom

A 13-member National executive Committee elected to pilot the affairs of the renowned organization, the Ibiono Ibom Welfare and Development Union have been sworn in with the exco pledging to take actions and pursue programmes and initiatives that will positively affect the wellbeing of Ibiono Ibom nation.

In an inaugural address on behalf of the sworn-in Executive Committee members, President-General of IWADU, Obong Effiong Inyang who is among those re-elected for a second tenure said the new Exco will make efforts consolidate on the significant milestones achieved by past administrations as well as launch out broad based programmes of development for Ibiono Ibom people all over the country.

Obong Inyang who is Medical Practitioner maintained that as an Umbrella Organization whose primary purpose is to foster unity, peaceful coexistence and the pursuit of development ends for Ibiono Ibom, IWADU will always steer clear from situations capable of threatening the peace unity and development of Ibiono Ibom Local Government.

“IWADU is not a political organization or a Political Pressure group and will never become one under our tenure. As Exco members, our duty is to press for issues that will lead to the common welfare and development of every Ibiono Ibom person. This is why, as President I am using this medium to call on all Ibiono Ibom sons and daughters to show renewed interests in the affairs of Ibiono Ibom. Ibiono Ibom needs to stay as one of the admired and revered Local Governments in Akwa Ibom State. We cannot achieve this goal if we don’t come together as a people. Let us who are members of IWADU take the message to every person who has Ibiono Ibom blood flowing in their veins that we need to rise and stand together as people to help ourselves and our land” Obong Inyang noted.

The President-General who said the inaugurated Executive Committee will be open to useful ideas on how to move Ibiono Ibom forward, also used the opportunity to warn those who are given to tendencies of sowing seeds of political and social division among Ibiono Ibom people to desist from such untoward acts, stressing that such divisions will not do the people any good.

Those sworn into the National Executive Committee of IWADU by Barrister Ekpa Bassey Ekpa who served as the Commissioner for Oaths include Dr Effiong Inyang as President-General, Ben Archibong Willlie as Vice President-General 1, Mr Okon Antia as Vice President-General II, while Prince Godwin Okon, ChMC was sworn in as Secretary-General.

Other sworn into the National Executive Committee include Comrade Ubon Udeme as Assistant Secretary-General, Mr Godwin Akpan as Treasurer, Mr Joseph Udo as Financial Secretary, Comrade Borono Bassey as Publicity Secretary, Mr Eyakmme Bassey was sworn in as Assistant Financial Secretary, Obonganwan Nkoyo Iwatt as Welfare Officer, Mrs Uyai Francis as Women Leader, Mr Mfoniso Inyang as Youth Leader while Mr Ibanga Udo was sworn in as Provost.

The newly sworn in Executive Committee members were early presented with Certificates of Return by the Electoral Committee which was chaired by Comrade Edidiong Akpan with Comrade Asuakak Umoh serving as Secretary of the Electoral Committee.

The Swearing-in took place few days after the elections which was part of the activities marking the 2018 Annual General Meeting/Triennial Conference of IWADU held at IWADU National Headquarters at Ikpa, Ibiono Ibom Local Government Area,

The two-day Triennial Conference/Annual General Meeting which had as its theme “Dearth of Patriotism: The Bane of Community Development brought together distinguished monarchs, eminent personalities, members of IWADU from across the nation as well as Sons and daughters Ibiono Ibom Local Government.
